The D.I.A.N. Project

We understand that there is an urgent need for an intense and profound reflection on such themes, given that we are facing a serious socioenvironmental and ethical crisis. Consequences of human actions and our supposed "development" are already being felt not only by us, but by all living beings. The climate crisis, constant abuse of non-human animals, mass extinction, pollution and water scarcity are just some of the many problems that we need to overcome together.
Considering this complex scenario, we seek to carry out activities with different audiences in order to question which future we aim to build and which habits must be rethought. We work under the freirean pedagogy perspective in association with the critical animal pedagogy field, looking for new ways of promoting critical and, above all, horizontal dialogues.
D.I.A.N. Project
(Debates and Investigations on Animals and Nature)
Conceived and created in 2015 by Dr. Tânia Regina Vizachri (USP) and Prof. Dr. Luis Paulo de Carvalho Piassi (USP), the Project D.I.A.N. is a Brazilian initiative that associates scientific research and science outreach. Our main objective is to promote critical discussions and thoughts on topics related to animal rights, critical animal studies and the eco-justice perspective.
We question how we are relating to other species and nature as a whole, addressing environmental, social and ethical aspects. Our team counts with undergraduate and master students, PhD candidates, professors and elementary school teachers from different Brazilian public institutions, especially University of São Paulo.
